We stayed at a beautiful resort with lots of....turkeys!
Brush Turkeys that is, they were EVERYWHERE.

Every day I would notice these BIG birds scratching here, scratching there and never really getting ‘off’ the ground like the majority of other birds do.
One morning, I stepped in Turkey Poop. Gross!
As I scrubbed my feet, these birds were on my mind.
Stay with me....
The brush turkey spends most of their time on the ground.
They spend most of their time alone, or can be found hanging with other turkeys.
While the bird may look slow, it can run fast when disturbed.
A quiet bird, the brush-turkey can sometimes be heard making soft grunts.
Interesting stuff huh ;)
I thought of some phrases about turkeys, which I am sure you would have heard;
'If you hang around with turkeys, you’ll never fly'
or
‘If you want to SOAR with the Eagles, don’t SIT with the Turkeys'
After watching these birds, I get it even more....
If I were a bird, I would not want to be a turkey!
Spending most of my time alone or with other turkeys, never meeting new birds, never getting off the ground, only running when my comfort is disturbed and every so often, grunting!
We all have people in our life that are turkeys.
My point is this, hang around with them long enough and not only will you never get off the ground or out of your comfort zone, you will soon be dealing with crap!
Birds of a feather flock together...
Be aware of the turkeys and seek out the Eagles.

Eagles have laser focus and as such, strong vision.
Inspired, focused and positive people are the same.
We can soar to great heights and travel great distances, just by being in the presence of ‘eagle’ types.
In work and play, we need to surround ourselves with like minded people.
This is why the internet is such a wonderful place. Finding people who share our interests, who are focused on their vision and who genuinely want to collaborate and share ideas, are at our fingertips!
Our Sunny Mummy community is just like that, a flock of Mummies seeking out the sun and supporting one another to SHINE!
How honoured do I feel to have all these type of {birds} hee hee, around me!
Sometimes we have to stop and ask ourselves, am I the type of bird someone wants to fly with?
My message today is this...
Choose your flock wisely, and together, you will all soar to great heights, taking you places you have never been before!
Do you want to be on the ground watching out for poop, every so often grunting?
or
Flying high and enjoying the view?
The choice is ours and I know which bird I'd rather be...what about YOU?
Keep Shining,
Stace x

Great post, I totally agree. It is the same when you spend too much time with negative people, you end up having negative attitudes also. Hang with positive people and you enjoy postive attitudes and feel healthier about life :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful analogy!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a bit more of a kookaburra influence too - always laughing...
Don't know how many others of you out there find encouragement in scripture like I do. I love this verse:
ReplyDelete"But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."
As a mum of 2 I love that all I have to do is ask!! Love your sunny mummy perspectives and want you to know what a positive impact it has made in this mummy's life! Thanks for reminding us to keep the main thing the main thing!!
This is so true - thank goodness I came across an eagle like you & your other sunny mummy's.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it takes seeing an eagle soar(& fly to heights you would like to achieve) to realise you're hanging around with way too many turkeys! Thanks for giving this turkey some wings !
I am a Turkey aspiring to be an Eagle :)
